Get Involved

Habitat on the Coast is an all-volunteer organization which builds a strong community and keeps our operating costs to a minimum.

There are many levels and types of work that we do besides building houses. Some are single day activities like events. Others involve committee work or full Board membership. We always need volunteers with building skills, financial background, graphic skills, and organizational ability to coordinate and oversee the projects delegated by the Board.

Check out our Committee List below to see who is doing what and how you might be able to help.

Volunteer Opportunities

BUILD DAY

Habitat is now building the Martinez home on 131 Dick Williams Way and needs volunteers of every skill level from novice to professional. We will be framing and closing in Saturdays from 9am to 5pm for the next few months. If you can come, we welcome all the help we can get.

Lunch is provided and extra tools are available if you do not have any. Call or feel free to just show up! For more information, contact Chuck Greenberg at chuckg@mcn.org or by phone at 707-937-2418.

Site is located at the end of Dick Williams Way which is the first left off of North Dana Street after it crosses Oak Street in Fort Bragg.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  • We need on an ongoing basis a variety of volunteer services: finance, accounting, marketing, fund raising, record keeping, volunteer coordination, special event planning, site acquisition, etc.
  • We also need land, new and selected used materials.
  • Your help can make a big difference to a local family. Come to a build and lend a hand!

Donate Your Vehicle to Help Habitat

You can now support Habitat for Humanity’s local and global mission by donating your car, truck, boat, RV or other vehicle to Habitat's Cars for HomesTM program. It’s quick and easy and with your help, more low income families will have a decent place to call home, and the hope of a better life. Call toll free 1-877-277-HFHI (4344) or visit www.carsforhomes.org.

Quick Tips for Donating a Vehicle
  • Make sure the nonprofit organization is reputable by being familiar with its purpose and work in the community. Check with the local Better Business Bureau or similar organization to see if the nonprofit is in good standing.
  • Inquire what percent of the vehicle’s sales go directly to the nonprofit organization. Habitat for Humanity receives between 70 and 85 percent of the total donation (after towing fees, etc.).
  • Make sure the tower is licensed and insured and the donated vehicle will be sold through a licensed dealer.
  • Sign the vehicle’s title directly to the nonprofit organization or their certified agent.
  • Ask the nonprofit organization how funds from the donated vehicle will be used.
